Great Exercise for a
Great Cause
Based on the tremendous response we
received from last year's tournament, AACO is once again hosting its annual
3-on-3 charity basketball tournament to raise money for local charities. Net
proceeds from this event
will be donated to Red Cross International
Relief (China
Earthquake Relief, and
Response to Myanmar Cyclone) and
Asian Health Services in Oakland.
Tournament Format
This year's tournament
will involve two brackets/levels of play: Friendship and Advanced. The
Friendship level is for those who want to take part, play just for fun and
contribute to a great cause. Advanced Level is for those who want some serious
b-ball competition and still have fun and contribute to a great cause!
All games are 3-on-3
half-court matches. A preliminary round will be played as a round-robin. Top
teams from each group in the preliminary round will advance to a single
elimination playoff second round.
Teams must
consist of a minimum of three players. Up to two substitute players are
optional. If you are in need of teammates, please
email
basketball@aaco-sf.org for
assistance.
Rules
-
All games are 3-on-3
half-court matches. A preliminary round will be played as a round-robin.
-
AACO adopts all standard rules of play used by
the NCAA except for
the following modifications.
-
Any fighting or grossly unsportsmanlike conduct
is means for
automatic disqualification.
-
Players are responsible for calling their own fouls.
Other players can not call your fouls for you.
-
A foul will result in the team fouled taking possession
of the ball. After SEVEN team fouls, ONE free throw will be awarded to the
player fouled.
-
On a free throw, the ball is live after the player
releases the ball, i.e. either team may take possession of the ball in the
event of a missed shot.
-
Each game will be monitored by an AACO monitor.
The monitor will be responsible for keeping score, counting fouls,
determining possession and has the power to overrule any call.
-
Any disputed calls
which the court monitor can not resolve will result in possession awarded to
the team with the possession arrow. Subsequently the possession arrow is
changed to point to the other team.
-
Each team is entitled to one 30 second time out per game.
-
Winner of the game is first team to score 15 points
or the leader after 20 minutes. All baskets, including free throws, are
worth one point each.
-
The team that scores a basket gets the ball on the next
possession.
-
Any change in
possession requires a clear beyond the free-throw line.
-
Team captains are responsible for reviewing the score
card before it is formally entered into the tournament records. Once the
results have been entered they will not be changed for any reason.
Rules are subject to change.
