Build a Playground in a Day

On the last Saturday of March 2003, AACO volunteers partnered with KaBOOM to Build A Playground for the non-profit All Are Friends Montessori School. The team consisted of teachers, parents, KaBOOM staff, and our group of friendly volunteers.
We broke into multiple teams to tackle the many aspects of building a playground. One group worked on pre-assembly of major components. A second group worked on framing of the overall structure. And a third worked on transporting a mountain of wood chips from the parking lot to the yard. Check out the pictures to see the enormous mountain of woodchips!
As difficult as it may be to believe, we completed the building effort in a single day -- working from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm!!!
In the process, our volunteers got to know each other and formed new friendships.
And while we worked hard to put the playground together, the kids worked together to create a banner of appreciation. They presented the banner to all the volunteers at the "ribbon cutting."
There will be many hours of joy for many kids on this playground.
All in a good day's work!
