Volunteering at RAFT |

May 10, 2003 AACO volunteers, steeled by their desire to aid RAFT in their mission to help Bay Area classroom teachers obtain crucial supplies necessary in their daily struggle to educate the youth of tomorrow, arrived at RAFT's office ready to battle all that opposed them in this worthy goal. And do battle they did: with rolls of stickers. Stickers of rainbows, motorcycles and Christmas trees. Resource Area For Teachers (RAFT) is a San Jose non-proft serving over 4,500 Bay Area teachers providing them with hands-on interactive learning materials and professional training workshops to use those materials in the school curriculum. Those who braved RAFT's overcrowded parking lot and near chaotic ensemble of teachers, volunteers, exhibitors, and school supplies on the 10th of May helped RAFT cut and assemble packages of assorted stickers. Packages which will eventually help a local teacher inspire a child to learn. After a short two hours which included snacks and a tour graciously provided by RAFT's staff, our volunteers headed to a local restaurant for Dim Sum. Thanks to RAFT for hosting us and to the volunteers who donated time from their Saturday morning to help this unique organization! |
